Title: Some more random photos
Post by: zpyder on December 24, 2010, 17:34:41 PM
A collection of more photos from the garden today. All done with the 100mm macro and remote control set up. ISO 4oo (Used highlight tone priority to see what itd do) and tried reducing noise in photoshop afterwards.

Im pretty chuffed with this one, view it full size in flickr. A bit annoying I couldnt get the whole bird in the frame, but it kind of works.

This one is an HDR shot as the blackbirds colours and lighting through the exposure way off. I saved 8 different versions of the same file at .25 exposure increments.

Ive now managed to snap the aerial off the remote though so itll be a week or two before its replacement arrives from HK. Costs about as much as it would to buy some solder.

I think you have a natural knack for this sort of photography, these are really brilliant IMO.

100mm, about 1-2 metres away. Depends on what I think is out that day for how close I get the camera. It takes about an hour or so usually for them to get used to it being there before they come back, and the sound of it firing usually scares them away sharpish. I kid you not, I could hear the shutter/mirror going from inside the house through the double glazing in the dining room!

The starling photos, if you hadn't guessed/noticed, have been fairly heavily post processed, they came out horribly underexposed so I used a layer mask and basically masked in another copy of the image with an overexposed version of the bird.

The thing I need to do now is figure out how/where to place the camera so that I can get the birds in a more natural setting, without having the feeder in view...They quite often sit on the bent metal arm of the hook at the top...

You should have an option somewhere to keep the mirror up which might vastly reduce the noise.

Yes, live view silent shooting. Problem with it is I also kind of need fast autofocus, which doesn't happen in live view, as well as draining the battery much quicker and it timing out after x minutes to save the sensor from overheating.
