£58.20 to fill a mini 

It's getting proper bloody stupid.

Tell me about it. I borrowed a van from work at the weekend on the basis that I paid for the fuel I used. 3/4 of a tank cost me £97 :s

thats the same price as i saw a citroen bx at the local motor auction go for after sales tax  and that had petrol in it too

I wish auctions were still this cheap down this way. By the way Andy, you really should have just bought that car, could have easily made a profit on that selling to a scrapyard or through ebay = more profit, thats if your being serious and not just bashing the BX, if the latter you need to watch out certain people round here love BX's! 

Cost me about £70  to fill my diesel usually around 50 liters.

I put in £20 in my Focus yesterday at BP, I think it was £1.29 there and that only covered just over the 1/4 mark. Also I noticed right after filling up, it only came to 15.29 litres.

Too right it's getting ridiculous. I remember when I had my old 205 3 years ago and £15 nearly covered 1/2 a tank.

I've been strongly considering getting rid of my 1.6 petrol Focus and getting a TDCi Focus instead. Don't get my wrong my 1.6 is excellent for economy on long motorway journey (I calculated on my last trip I was getting 42mpg) but at the moment where I am commuting to/from work on the M1 & A roads on weekdays and always getting stuck in long que's of traffic/jams it's killing my fuel consumption. I calculated the other day that at the moment I am only achieving 31-33mpg at the most.

I cover 12,000 miles/year on average now which I think is just enough to see the benefit of the great fuel economy from a diesel. I have calculated as well that if I do achieve roughly 50mpg from a diesel then I would be saving just over £5 a week (I currently spend £25 of fuel a week at the moment).

What do you guys think?

Depends. Usually you'll pay a premium for a diesel version of a car, so you might not save any money after all.

I can testify to Diesel economy tho, I've got a 206 HDi and I pretty much drive everywhere at 100% and it never goes lower than 38mpg.

Don't forget Diesel insurance is up more than regular Petrol car insurance due to insurance companies working out everyone is trying to save money on fuel.
