After 25k miles, the Continental ContiSportContact 2s that came with my car were starting to look pretty worn out. The rears were marginally better but one of them had a slow puncture so I decided to change all four.
Originally I was planning on getting a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s with the best price I could find around the £320 mark. Then a mate bought a set of wheels (second hand classic Porsche wheels) which came with Eagle F1s thatd only covered a couple of hundred miles for £400 which peevd me off a bit.
So I started to look for wheels on sale with newish tyres
I have always wanted a set of BBS wheels, love the design & build quality. The Golf GTI 17 & 18" dial wheels are made by BBS as well as the Challenge wheels on the Ferrari 360 CS.
After a couple of months of looking I came across a guy wanting to sell the wheels that came with his 56 plate Audi S-Line. I hadnt realised this, but alongside the new 30th Anniversary GTI, Audi is also fitting OEM versions of the BBS Challenge wheel on their S-Line cars.
They only differ to the BBS branded ones in that they dont have "Motorsport" etched into the centre of the wheel.
Theyre 18x8 (225/40), fitted with Pirelli PZero Rosso tyres which have only covered a couple of hundred miles. Managed to snag em for £450! Quite amusing, as a set of Challenges with either the Rossos or Eagle F1s would set you back £1300 new.
Should be slapping them on tomorrow night, will need to hunt down some VW centre caps as well.
Should look something like this once done.
