Best gaming moments?

Particularly well done sequences...uber kill combos...mega bugs...what have been the highlights from your gaming past?

Im guessing due to the nature of the thread spoilers will be discussed, starting below.

One of the all time most well executed sequences Ive encountered was early on in "Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth". For those that dont know it, its based on Lovecrafts work, and you start off early on in Innsmouth, a bit of an odd town. Nothing much really happens for quite a while as you wonder around talking to the locals and investigating a murder/disappearence. Things seem odd, and you go to bed in the local hotel. And then all hell breaks loose. What follows is pretty spectacular and unforgiving, which just adds to the experience. You have the foresight to bolt the hotel room door before going to bed, and sure enough you get woken during the night by the locals trying to break in. You have a very very very small margin of error where you have to run to the adjoining room, close and bolt the door, push dressers across the door etc. Its timed so well that theyre always one step behind, and it takes several tries before you might make it out of the hotel. And then youre chased around the town and the rooftops, rarely given much chance to collect your nerves. It really is amazing. The videos on youtube dont do it justice.

And from more recent games, crossing into mexico in Red Dead Redemption that first time, with Jose Gonzalez playing in the background was truly amazing. My friend is gutted as he saved the game and shut the xbox down the second he crossed over, and so will never get that experience!

Final Fantasy 8. My first experience with a RPG - the first hour absolutely blew me away. In total I spent over 80 hours playing it! Would play the minute I got in from school till bedtime. Completed it 3 times now

Timesplitters - evenings in with my friends on team deathmatch with 2 - 4 playes. Must have racked up hundreds of hours over the years I had that game.

Ive many fond memories of going round to my mates and spending an evening completing both Max Paynes over a session of beers and laughter. Fantastic games.

The opening sequence of Final Fantasy 7.

It to me was one of the first times I had seen such impressive CG done in a video game and still looks good to this day. The looming approach over the city to the close shots of the train with the fantastic music by Nobou Uematsu. Still gives me goosebumps now.

FF8 is still my fave, I think its like Dr. Who, people like the one they first encountered. 80 Hours? My first play through I took 130 hours, its been my benchmark in terms of value for money for hours of gametime!

That would be FF VII, which was the first PS version of Final Fantasy. I understand it is/was rated as the best, but like Zpyder, FF VIII was special to me as it was my first encounter with the series.

On a separate note.. FF XIV is looking amazing... WoW on PS3  :ptu:

I preferred the more normal characters of FF8 over the more cartoony FF7. In terms of "emotional bonds" I never quite got the whole love story with Cloud/Aeris/Tifa side of things, but really liked the FF8 relationship going on. The ending still kinda gets me as it can be interpreted in a good, or sad way.

I  heard FF VII will be remade for PS3 in full HD, but I am now reading that it is highly unlikely as Square would only do it if it could be developed within a year... No chance of that!

If you like Final Fantasy, this is the future... FFXIV
