&%$£ you Epson
on: November 21, 2009, 01:21:42 AM
To cut a long story short I needed to print 10 pages of text for a friend of mine, fine I thought, ill use my new Epson Inkjet printer which I had bought only a few months previously. So I set it to use black Ink only, not wanting to waste any colour Ink and off it goes.

Two pages in it says I’m out of black ink, fine I thought, looks like I’ll have to use the colour ink after all, no you bloody won’t it said, buy a new black ink cartridge now or I’ll print sod all. Yep that’s right my frigging printer is holding me to ransom, unless I buy a new black ink cartridge it will refuse to print anything even though my colour cartridges are nearly full.

To say I was a little pissed off was a big understatement, how can they get away with this? I mean I have three near full colour cartridges, yet because my black cartridge is out it is refusing to print, what happened to using the colour inks to make a composite black? Epson are basically forcing customers to buy Ink to keep using their printer, even when there is no need.

Seriously if I had known about this before hand I would never have bought the bloody thing.

Terrible design feature. I just keep a stock of cheapo carts now.

 :stupid:

One can get a b/w wifi laser for £100 so why bother with ink which dries up or have above mentioned problem ? they practically give away ink jet printer so they can sell ink, sorta like mobile phones for next to nothing so they can make money on yer calls.

Got a HP photo printer downstairs that is used once in a blue moon. Its one of the each colour is separate printers so if you run out of yellow just replace the yellow instead of the whole colour cart :)

Same, I love my canon, it also has 2 different black inks, one for text type stuff and another for the photos.

Lets you print even when the cartridge is supposedly empty too.

Using refils and the ink is actually almost free if you use staples £1 per empty cartridge deal, considering a pack of 4 inks costs about £6 I think, less if you buy more.

Yeah my epson is like that - but if the one colour runs out the others wont work until the empty one is replaced. Yuo dont have to replace them all though!

CIS FTW

Only 30-odd quid and still only half-used after 18 months.  Search eBay (CIS inkjet) for inkjet longevity goodness.
