I could argue you with the student stuff if you want Sam. Just signed up for a masters after ive finished my 3 years of lazing around :P

The prospect of staying in education for life has its appeal :)

I can understand why someone would want to, its a no hassle enjoyable lifestyle.

Contrary to popular belief I have nothing against students at all. Im just dismissive against anyone who lives in cookoo land that it takes massive amounts of hard work. Youll never have such an easy life as your 3 years at uni (well 1.5 years if you take into account the 6 months a year they have off).

I dont understand how you find it hard to survive on that M3ta7h3ad. Working the hours you do even minimum wage should see you through; I certainly had no problem using a student loan + money from a couple of jobs to afford to live quite happily, actually quite well through my four years. What the hell are you spending your money on? Are you living in a ridiculously expensive flat or something?

Why have you been there for five years? In my experience people who say they are "in uni" 9-6 every day are lying. Sorry mate, but thats just how Ive seen things over the last four years. What subject are you doing and why is it so crucifying on the work load? I mean, I certainly put the hours on but that was more enjoyment then sheer dedication as I loved my subject, and a lot of it was private study in my own time, not "in uni" time as you seem to have.

Im now 21 and going to Uni in September to do Computer and Network Administration, Ive had my full time jobs and worked 60+hrs a week with two jobs at times and understand now, better than I did previeously how much effort has to be put in to hold a good job you enjoy (or has a meaty pay cheque).

Im going to be 24 when I finish my Degree but I dont really give a toss, Ive allready got more life experience than any other of the people that will be in Dorms with me, I will know how to manage my self better, how to get a job etc.  I may do the whole play hard and work a bit lazy at times, but who doesnt?

Sam was spot on with hitting the e boom bomb. I think a lot of us are propably jealous at how well he kicked it off for him self... Im praying I find a bloody 4 1/2million lottery ticket tho :p

But im not travelling home so *shrugs* Im allready here, but once I go to Uni, I dont plan to come home much at all and find a nice job in a small pub, while at uni :)

Monetarily speaking I would be worse off if I took up a University course. I know people who have and have been given less money than they would earn on social security. I now get £70 a week for basic living, any rent, council tax, medical bills, etc. and I dont have to pay for them. If I was to go into uni I wouldnt get those benefits and I would get a grant, this is a good bit lower than the standard Social Security payments and that would mean I would need a job on top.

The uni course on its own might not be difficult but add in a part time job as well and it becomes a little more problematic. Long term there might be advantages of course, higher wages, etc. but that does not directly affect the short term. For most people its a good, long term investment, deal, providing they choose the right course. For others its not.

Perhaps you should do more exams but spread over a greater length of the course?

You should know how to do that anyway, wait until you get something that you dont know how to accomplish and havent been given any instruction on with a limited time to do it.

- I struggle to have enough money for food at the end of the month.
- I cant afford to repair my bike because of the above.

- I work 22 - 27.5 hrs a week in the evenings and weekends.

then youre pretty bad at managing money surely

lets say you do just 22 hour per week & have 5 weeks off - that is 6 grand per year

add your 3grand student loan onto that & youve got 9 grand a year

250 per month for rent - well thats only 3 grand - 30 per week for food is what? 1500?

you should still have a few thousand left over for drinks, clothes, computer gear, shooting etc.. - how on earth are you ennding up so short of cash..

Now if you wish to prove that it is in fact a golden time of my life, how about posting up your troubles in life. Because as far as I can see... my ones pretty much suck ass.

but a lot of us have already been to uni - we know what it is like so you dont need to try and kid us - if youre personally finding it as hard as youre making out then sorry dude but it isnt uni that is really tough it is simply your inability to cope with it properly that is making it tough for you personally.

It does feel like youre stretching things slightly here, in those 9-4 or 9-5 days youre talking about are you actually working consistently or is there lots of coffee drinking/chatting? (Not that theres anything wrong with that, hey, its a big part of what being a student is).

I did a reasonably intense degree course by average standards, and I only ever had full mornings of lectures, and maybe max 2 hours of teaching time in the afternoon.

My feeling is that if youre actually working that hard every day, without a lot of breaks, youre going about your work in the wrong way somehow, and need to look at some way of working a bit smarter.

As with lots of folks on here, Ive done my degree now and am out in the real world, and certainly in terms of the hours I put, work is more demanding, in terms of the time I have to be at my mental best though, work is generally an easier ride. Swings and roundabouts tbh, and the nice thing is Im enjoying my job, so the extra hours dont really worry me. Do miss the second year of spending most nights in the bar though :D
