Forums in the modern world are dead and not envolved with the rest of the web. Introducing elements like social medium (who here does not have a twitter or facebook?) for example (in the right way) would also take it further.

Yeah Ive been a complete bastard havent I providing hosting for the forum for years for free (not busy now but it once was) with the many multitude of hours that went with that. All youve ever done is bang on about New Zealand and how youre the best web designer in Oceania. I thought you were delusional before but this takes the biscuit. The saddest part is you honestly have no clue how you come across.

Ive got a converter written Nige, and Ill happily muck in and get the data migrated. But were waiting on someone to setup a new forum or at least decide what/where/how were hosting. I dont mind paying for it if someone else monitors it.

Cool, lets get it going then, Im happy to host or monitor it either way so really we just need to decide on the software.

I think if Tekheads want to keep their name at the top, they should put their hands in their pocket too.

if anyone else who has spare hosting wants to chip in and offer their server, then paste the ip address and let whoever is in control of the domain choose a LAMP server to put this new syste, on.

I do not, Only a few people here who seem to ignore things other then looking for comments that attack them and then return the favour even when they are not there.

Your not reliable, and its not your fault. Your busy. It is a simple fact (as I stated) that one person with the ability to do something is not enough. If they are not able to do something then it is a simple fact that it does not get done. This is not reliable.

In terms of providing hosting for the fourms... You yea have but Again Just about anyone who is a regular here has and continues to say they can provide hosting or help pay for hosting if need be when there has been major issues or problems in this area. It is not that your the only one wanting to offer help and run the forums because that is simply not true.

Anything negative even if its not your fault in something and you have a go at people Sam. Stop it. Why do you ignore every complement or nice thing said to you and anything else you just act and have a go at people?
He is right, talk about a converter and moving away from this software was going pretty much as soon as this forum software had a lot of posts on it. Nige was asking about it and passing info to you about things from what I knew a long while ago. Do not know if you knew they came from me but yep - Still offer help when asked no matter what you think.

You know the converter you wrote as well. You can make money off that. People on the forums for this software have been looking and asking for one for ages.
If you went on there and said you got one and set a simple one page site with paypal to get payments for it you can make quite a bit of money from it. If I was you I would because you wold make a nice bit of cash.

Vbulletin and SMF.
It is just which one of these.

There are a few people here willing in terms of maintenance and coding that know both of these.
I update and manage both and both have a good community. I would say the SMF addons and extras and temptemplating  is more manageable. Modding addons or writing my own for SMF I have found a lot easier and the server load and code length to be a lot less then Vbulletin. But I have used Vbulletin a lot less.

I still have clients using Invision and since its gone paid their support is terrible when I have had to deal with them and it does seem a mess in terms of addons, support etc. The forums themselves are tight as hell though. The admin is crap! but as mentioned they are secure.

As Others will say if money needs to be put in paypal for something I am happy to throw some mulla in there as well.

Having to rely on you and basically only you with Nige doing some things to manage and handle forum with hosting and domain etc is NOT FAIR. Doing it for Free and being busy and with you going to the US etc and perusing your ambitions and just being busy you can not have any form of focus on these forums. And it has shown. You can not deny that. The major cock ups to the forum could have been avoided.
The domain thing was a booboo and If it was me I would even be raising my hand to that one.

Just as with work or any company, you should not have one person holding all the info etc. If they are not around and its needed or something needs to be done - your f**ked!
We store all our clients passwords and info on a secure password management system because as I am sure you have done when you go ask them - they have no clue. Getting clients of existing sites (like me a week before xmas) they just have no clue. I was on the phone to hosting companies (luckily who know us) and managed to get the rest stuff sent to my email as the details were for a person who had left the company and whos email was dead.

When it was on PHP I remember a few people had access to it and could do things on it. And you can not deny that it was nice.

I remember some bugs or some requests came in for some changes or fixes or improvements and you had always got someone who was "yeah, sure i am around I will look into it"

Sam, relying on one person is not reliable. Tell me that is not the case?

Another year, and were still small, but threads like this are still the most entertaining place on the web for me  8-)
