since I have upgraded my phone to android 2.2 I have noticed a problem when I browse the forum.

After a couple of thread views the page loading bar comes up with :www.tekforum.co.uk/ping_session.jsp

and it never finishes loading and doesnt let me stop it or navigate away from the page, I have to end the application in task manager.

never had it on 2.1

Anyone know what it is?

Cheers

Its what is called every few minutes to refresh and ping to keep your session active.

any idea why it would crash my browser on my android phone?

Clock'd 0Ne

I have no idea, is the phone using a specific browser?

The only problem might be a small typo in the file, it looks like there is a space in the closing tag, maybe that is causing it to not render properly and crash? I cant fix it from here though.

soopahfly

Doesnt do it on mine, but it does keep zooming out and moving to the top when this ping happens.

2011 should be the year that the finger is pulled out, move to something like vBulletin, IPBoard, phpBB or SMF and Tapatalk.

Im more than happy to get get moving on it, its getting the db exported or converted that needs the efforts of Mr Samuel but hes got a real job these days so hes always too busy.

soopahfly

fixed it for you!!!!

I cant see the reliance on sam converting the data, just bin it, most of it is junk.
set some forums on an another server (do i have to offer hosting space again?) and copy and paste the few interesting stickied threads. itd take about half an hour if we all mucked in.

but for gods sake, just get on with it already instead of this fake hope that someone is gonna do something to bin this crappy software and hopefully get tekforums back up there with some decent traffic and interesting threads on a seo aware forum that will advertise itself. or finally admit that you like the fact you know everyone and that this place is small and easy to run.

isnt tapatalk phone software for using ipb forums?

Dont think thats ever been a big secret for most people! Thats EXACTLY why I love this place!
Career, Wife, Mortgage... my sig was better when it listed guitars and PC's and stuff!

Tapatalk can be used on any of the forum software I put above.

To be honest bytejunkie, no one really has to lift a finger around here any more because its so quiet, if you really think I prefer it like this as opposed to when I was moderating at the busiest times, running competitions, etc you could not be further from the mark.

Every time we lose all the posts and everyone has to rejoin as a member we lose a flock of people. You probably think that doesnt matter any more but I would rather do it properly or not at all, and not start again with yet another blank canvas for the same 20 or 30 people to fill.

ok then, sam is busy. lets ask on odesk for someone to write a convertor. $50 will get it done. maybe a 100. ill pitch 10% of whatever in... who else is in?

Know dig at Sam but over the years he has not been reliable. When he is in the role of only one who can really do stuff for the forums and doesnt then its not a good thing. Even being legitimately busy, one and a half people with the ability to sort or manage the forum software/server isnt good.

Every instance of the forums getting messed up and we loosing people could have been avoided, even the domain loss.

Giving it under a platform with more support, more of a community behind it and something more people can get at or manage the better. The thing that I have said before that needs to happen though is some marketing to 1. Tell people who left to see if they come back, 2. Get new people in.

Forums in the modern world are dead and not envolved with the rest of the web. Introducing elements like social medium (who here does not have a twitter or facebook?) for example (in the right way) would also take it further.

Twitter and Facebook dont have the organisation of forums, some of us like separated threads and stickies :P I actually prefer forums.
