So Ive gone and got myself a microscope for christmas. As a bit of fun, lets have a name the object competition. Ill put some pics up of various things under magnification and its up to you guys to say what they are. Given that the microscopes magnification is 7-45x, itll be a bit difficult to find things that look suitably different enough when magnified, so some things may be a bit abstract etc.

Rules:

I post an image. It stays up for a few days, and then what it is is revealed. In that time post what you think it is.

More points are awarded for more precise (and accurate) answers. So say I post a close up of a note (money) youll get a point for saying its money, but if you say what value, you get more points. Bonus points may be awarded if the exact location can be identified in some cases too. On the rare occasion that no one has got it right, Ill post a hint, such as the magnification used, and itll keep going till we have 3 correct answers. I wont be saying when someone has got it right, so hopefully people will be guessing till it is revealed.

Depending on how many people answer and the number of correct answers, and the amount of detail involved, the points system may vary between images, such as (using the money example above) if people say its a £5 note, and its actually a £10 note, they get nothing. Or negative points depending on how wrong (So if you say £10 note and tip of the queens nose, when its actually her ear, you get 1 point instead of 2 as getting the location wrong is -1. However if you want to WIN youll need to go for as many points as possible!). Scoring is effectively like QI...based on some unspoken rules and fairly random.

This initial post will be updated to keep tabs on the leader boards.

instead of posting hints, you could post another pic not zoomed in as far & give less points

Good point, will see how it goes, as I doubt there will be many really difficult images, and when someone gets it right and posts, its then a rush for everyone else to try and decide whether he/she is correct, and if so whether to gamble on the location.

Depending on how far away from the correct answer everyone is will depend on the level of hint, whether its minimal, or zoomed out somewhat :D

Just in case someone is thinking its something already been said, you can also say you think its that. I think a bonus point will go to whoever said it first, but otherwise you will get points...

yea I was thinking that too, the sealant makes it look like it could be a waterproof housing or camera too
