Hi guys,

Got drunk at a mates BBQ on Saturday whilst the wife drove. Apparently we're now going to New York on holiday next year.... she's played that well hasn't she?

Any advice on where to stay and things? Would like a reasonably nice hotel (Leon - no goddamn hostels!!)

Cheers

Career, Wife, Mortgage... my sig was better when it listed guitars and PC's and stuff!

book via air lingus - cheaper & you can clear immigration in ireland & save  a whole load of body cavity searches

Sam

Except you have to fly to Ireland first which is 3 hours extra (1 hour + transfer time + UK security + irish security) to save 15 minutes at JFK.

Just book from a proper airport and fly with BA.

As for where to stay. Use priceline.com if you want.

air lingus are doing some fantastic deals atm, so could work out a lot cheaper because their taxes are cheaper - The 3 hours extra is bollocks + by flying BA you would need to get to london, so if your up north, thats 2hours+ travelling + uk security +JFK security.

Loads of people that want cheap US flights go via Copenhagen and other European business airports, because flights from those airports to the US are dirt cheap. Go from here and you pay a premium.

Of course, flying to mainland Europe first is rather an inconvenience, even if the flights are only a couple of hours. Depends what you value  more I guess, time or money.

How can you include UK security in the comparison. You have to do that regardless of your next stop. And what's up with JFK? Last time I went through there I was on a student visa, forgot to bring it with me (lol) and was 15 minutes.

I suppose if you're Welsh though they have to be careful  :P

I'd like to see some evidence of these dirty cheap deals as my wife is looking for a flight home in September. You won't find one, but I'm happy to be proven wrong to save some $$$

Same as Egg. My opinion is that is bollocks but again I'd love to be wrong if it shaves some money off the ridiculous prices.

Happy to fly from any London area airport.

Sam

$650 London to NYC September 30th to October 7.
$609 Dublin.
$767 Copenhagen.

All searched for 3 day range either side.

Not seeing these awesome deals !!

I really think people in this forum just make things up or spout sh*t their mates told them at the pub.

Oh wait, I can save 30 quid if I somehow get to Ireland first, and then I can avoid this huge delay at JFK that doesn't exist.

Don't shoot the messenger lol, I read it on MSE I'm pretty sure so you would have thought it would be legitimate - the airport may not even have been Copenhagen, I'll try and find out! Good of you to take the time to disprove it though and save Rivkid a hassle searching

Well I can't find where I read it at all now, I should have said "apparently", but it appears as Sam proved that it was horsepoo, and makes no sense the more I think about it.

Sorry if I've rolled a sh*t-grenade and run away here!! However I've talked her out of it on the basis that we (hopefully) move into our first purchased home in a few weeks and she wants a new kitchen and bathroom!

Feet remaining on terra firma = happy Rivkid! :)

edit - sorry Pakistan Airways...

And I'm only semi-joking...

(plus the average terrorist won't want to blow up their own airline)

depends on the dates obviously... Aerlingus are advertising quite heavily around here.
http://www.aerlingus.com/travelinformation/weboffersfromuk/uktotheusa/

I just done a sample search for Feb. From Cardiff to New York.
Just under £550 - your dates come out the same funnily enough
Thats much more convenient for me. If I lived in London, then Id pay the extra, fly direct & NOT have to stop off in Dublin.
flying from London, I would have the extra cost to get to london - train or car - Severn Bridge Toll if I drove, possibly needing an overnight hotel stay - maybe 2!

As I said... Swings & Roundabouts.

I see just under 550 too. From Cardiff to JFK via Dublin. No difference from London though. So not seeing these fabulous savings I've been promised.

Now of course if you live in the sticks and you don't want to come to London then clearly its a better choice, but its no cheaper, which was everyone's original point, now disproved.
