Perhaps, that's still unconfirmed though and we don't really know the cause yet. Cars don't just spontaneously combust without some sort of problem, it would have to be a pretty horrendous crash otherwise. All I'm saying is I'd rather give him the benefit of the doubt until the real statements are in rather than write him off as a knobber just because he was on Jackass.

Give him the benefit of the doubt? Its not like he's a poster on here or any of his buddies/members of his immediate family... frankly I'll call it how I see it and at the moment it doesn't look too great.

Reports so far - pictures of him out drinking uploaded onto twitter hours before crash occurred, police estimating the car was traveling about 100mph at the time of the crash...

Call me old fashioned but I really don't think this was a completely innocent mechanical fault that was totally not his fault and that we shouldn't be criticising as a result.

Sure lots of people speed from time to time - Going up to say 80-ish on a motorway, when sober, when a large portion of the rest of the traffic is doing that speed is one thing.

Doing 100mph or so, after apparently going out drinking, that is just reckless and its a good thing that no other road users were involved.

The way I see it is that it's obviously sad in the case that two men have died. Whether it was their own stupidity or not, it's still sad.

Would you be criticising him the same way had he committed suicide? No. Okay, so I know it's not completely the same, but it was something he inflicted upon himself- he chose to drink, he chose to (allegedly) take drugs, and he chose to get in that car and drive, the same way someone chooses to take their own life. It might not be viewed as the most sensible idea to everyone else, but at that moment in time it is to them.

It's not even remotely the same. In suicide death is deliberate. In the case of Ryan Dunn death was certainly an accident, and perhaps a stupid, brainless one that could have been avoided.

Suicide is far more selfish, stupid and brainless than this, which is a drunken accident at best. People forget how common place drink driving is in the US, this was probably par for the course except for the speed they were travelling at. If he was that drunk his 'buddies' should have been looking out for him and stopped him from getting behind the wheel. If you're that drunk is is very easy to become reckless like this. I do find it funny that the most vocal on the subject are those that don't actually drive (I'm pretty sure I don't remember you ever driving Dave, military vehicles don't count).

Not often no - I live in London. Don't see how its particularly relevant tbh... I also think Diana should have worn a seat belt - the one person who survived that crash was wearing one - though his injuries likely weren't helped by the two selfish idiots in the back who's bodies crashed forwards into the front seats.

I'd presume Ryan Dunn likely wasn't wasted or acting overly drunk - few beers and shots according to the reports and so quite feasibly believed he was fine. This is exactly why, if tests come back showing he was over the limit, he should be quite openly criticized for it - he was either reckless or is a reflection of the general ignorance of the US population as to the dangers of drink driving. He wasn't some teenager but an adult who should have known better. Limits aren't set by boring officials in order spoil people's nights out and painting this as just an unfortunate incident isn't productive.

I've been stopped doing over the ton on an overtake and I was very thankfully let off by Mr plod because it was obvious that I was wisely paying more attention to the road than my speedo. Not that I'm advocating anyone drive over 100mph of course! I won't risk it these days, I wouldn't get let off again for sure.

What did you have to do to get let off doing 30mph over the limit? Wait! Actually don't answer that. :P

That's fair enough Dave, I don't think anyone is going to argue that drink driving is acceptable or not irresponsible.

Smugs, all I did was talk like a sensible, rational person that doesn't make out he watches the speedo! If you show some respect, remorse and apologise without acting like a tool they are more inclined to be lenient with you, I did add that at the same time I was sorry for going too fast, realised it was a bit silly even though I was overtaking, etc. (Actually I seem to remember telling him I didn't think the car would go that fast ;D  )

Sorry matey, but your comments on suicide?  :dis:

It's all getting a bit silly now so I'm stepping out of this debate.

There's no seats in the back of a 911 GT3 RS.  Just a rollcage.

I know people that have committed suicide (including a relative) and those that have tried - whether 'crying for help' or not - that's my view whether you think it right or wrong from my own experience, I'm not being silly and I'm categorically not talking about people that want to be euthanised either.

So he was three parts pissed doing ton 30 in a car he obviously couldn't handle when he crashed? Forgive me if my heart doesn't bleed with sorrow, it's the passenger I have more sympathy for.

130mph on those sort of roads would be pretty mental when sober, let alone after a few. The only good thing to come out of this would be for there to be better education and clamping down on drink driving stateside!

Doesn't show him drinking.  Shows him wondering who the f*ck put fruit in his beer.

I'm with him.  What kind of person puts fruit in beer.
