Quote from: Clockd 0NeThe younger generation that have grown with music on the move and use it as background filler, not just to sit and listen to. They arnt particularly fussed about the qaulity of the source, etc as long as they can play it portability on the bus/train, for their mates, etc. The sort of people that listen to music from a mobile phone.
Id never actually thought about it but think youve hit the nail on the head right there.  I just cant get excited about a good stereo system but people a few years older really care about the sound quality.  For me its just got to be "good enough" but have a ton of choice.

Clock'd 0Ne

Im glad someone understands what Im getting at

Ive always been into high fidelity since my dad would put on records through his system, and its the experience and inolvement you get with the music that makes it all the better than simply having it on in the background. Hes had some top kit in his time, he even used to build his own speaker systems. I think a lot of kids miss out and dont get to experience this these days, everything is geared for the short attention span.

Does your grandparents know what the on off symbol is if you showed them? So why would someone younger, use it every day but when you give a new item not know what it is again? lol

Quote from: Clockd 0NeSound is never digital, you still need to an analogue process to drive the speakers and generate the waveform that reaches your ears. All digitalisation has done is provide better mediums to store music. It has not fundamentally improved the quality of loudspeakers. Youll also find most audio is still recorded to tape reels in studios for masters, used both to make vinyl pressings and to master CDs.

Indeed.  In fact we are not even getting the full fat recordings as they were in previous mediums.  With digital techniques, we are literally only getting a sample of the raw recording, limited both in the frequency of the samples and the bandwidth leaving out the high and low ends.  We go from a continuous signal to a discrete signal.

What we get out of the speakers in an analogue waveform but in reality is only the product of the interpretation of the digital waveform.  Even then it may have suffered from the known side affects of digital sampling.  Quantization problems.

Speakers have not dramatically changed, only the tecnology in how we record, store and reproduce the original sound in a process that is to complicated for its own good.

Quote from: SamI already emailed them to moan cos they are not noise isolating which is what I want.

They should be.

Quote from: SamSo they arrived today except they say Shure SCL2. Now I cannot find much about these, is this the same thing or have I been scammed? Luckily I didnt order from shysters heaven, aka ebay.com

Same thing. This is the model that replaced the E2Cs

Sam

These shures are garbage. If anyone wants a barely used pair for £20 let me know.

Cypher

Why? I am very suprised to hear that.  Especially if they are the same as the e2cs anyway..

If you dont think they are good enough being an audiiophile...thats what you get for the money.

Sam

I just dont like the stupid connectors that are meant to go inside your ear.

Cypher

Thats the whole idea of isolating sound.  But you have to find a comfortable fit.

Mind not all of the ear attachements are to everyones tastes.  I only really got on with the semi felxible plastic ones rather than the sponge attachments.

Did you ever try niges etymotics.  They were very tough material.

Clock'd 0Ne

Nah he never did try them out actually. Im surprised that as you do running these arnt ideal, but then as Bob said the fit differs a lot between attachments, these may not have been good for you.

neXus

Sam should really get one of these, probably be happier with them..
