 :nana:

Im now on a 1Mb/s connection after months and months of painfully slow "check this, check that, switch this off, connect that, unplug this, check now, exchange this, use ours, plug in, turn-off, switch on, test this...." daily routine ad nauseum.

FINALLY - Im getting what Ive been paying for for months; a broadband connection.

BT apparently fixed a fault at the exchange - why couldnt this have been checked in the first place?  Like I said was the problem... :disappointed:

Think I should get a refund?....

zpyder

It actually makes me feel better about my poor speeds and connection!

Dont get me started on BT and ADSL...

...too late!

It took us 18 months to get it (as my parents werent fussed and I was at school so hardly ever got them round to trying to upgrade). Rents wanted to go with BT as we had a BT landline and they thought itd be the least hassle. We tried all the different BT ISPs of the time, each time they would say the line tested fine, give us a date, and then nothing. Each time we would phone up, and they would reply "Its outside cost limits"

In the end we got ADSL by going with Nildram, told them the story, they said it tested fine, we groaned, along came activation day, nothing, phoned them up, Nildram person got his manager, manager said "thats not on" and called BT and got them to send an engineer out. Turns out when they were testing the line, we were on the threshold and so they wouldnt send an engineer out unless they had to. Once we got ADSL/the line sorted, it also made our phone connection a bit clearer too!

You should try and get a refund if you have paid for a month+ of service which never worked, especially if it was their fault!

Ive just looked into the history of the fault and an SNR change was what boosted the speed. However this didnt work the first time because of spiking noise. If the noise returns, your SNR will rise (automatically) and your sync speed will drop.

There was never any fault evident throughout testing, and the first engineer found no fault. BT have remotely reset the line card/port, but this was done AFTER your sync speeds increase, so it didnt have anything to do with fixing your fault.

So, to summarise...

The fault is caused by spiking noise increasing your SNR. This has abated, we wont know how long for until it returns.

There was no fault in the exchange.

Wed be more than happy to offer a refund as a gesture of goodwill, just ask.

Dear Mr *****,
I have checked the logs (shown previous) and your connection was solid for the 8 hours you say you were connected to the master socket. This shows the extension wiring/socket is causing the fault.
Wrong (as I said all along).

So, what should I believe?

Well, I can only go by the last thing that Im officially told i.e.:

"BT have fixed a fault at your local exchange"

:)

That was a generic clear message after they reset the card / port. It didnt change anything.

Then PlusNets system needs its mouth washing out with soap.

I appreciate your help in all this but I really do feel that Ive been asked to jump through hoops over two months to fix a fault which is evidently easily rectified.

Two months to identify and fix a fault - is that a record?

:)

It is not easily rectified. We tried the fix once and it didnt work because the noise on the line was still there.

Now it isnt, enjoy it whilst it lasts :)

Cheers, I will.  Itll have to be instant satellite bb if it goes again though - imagine being on dial-up for two months.  :gag:  Thanks for your help. :) :)
