Oh And Egg, since your one of the guys that always moans about this sort of thing..
aferall?

instructions for this post pls

Quote from: skidzillaEven if anthropocentric models for climate change turn out to be wrong or faulty, I still think that moving away from carbon-based energy sources to a hybrid nuclear/renewables paradigm can only be a good and worthwhile goal for our entire species, if not our planet.

I dont think anyone with a modicum of common sense can deny that at all. I think there is a happy middle ground between the feckless types who believe all of the statistics and figures about the supposed damage we are doing to the planet and the idiots who couldnt give a damn at all.

Unless you know WTF they are talking about then it could be anything, how about it being in a simulation that they know is producing the wrong figures?

It certainly does not state that this data was released or used to enhance global warming.

One and the same thing surely? i dont see any other species generating power
1. I was referencing more to the prospect of another sapient species evolving* to replace us, once Homo Sapiens is extinct due to failing/being unable to adapt to the altered environmental conditions. (Remember that in geological time - 4.5 billion years, we are less than a blip).

2. But then we might also develop the necessary technology to colonise elsewhere in our solar system, but still leave the earth mostly uninhabitable. Humanity would survive; but at a tremendous cost.

*Im betting on the Kangaroos. :P

save the planet always makes me laugh as a slogan.

save the fuzy wuzzy animimals makes slightly more sense, but what its really all about is save the human race.

The planet will outlast us by a few billion years at least, mother earth will shrug us off like you might a mild cold.

the sun is going to go supernova in ~50million years !

even if the sh*t hits the fan, floods, disease, famine, no power etc. etc. etc..... therell still be plenty of people alive in nuclear bunkers etc...
(governments, army, paranoid rich people etc...)

OMGWTFBBQ !!!

youre not going to believe me here

and youre going to think Im the piss

but I thought of that years ago, no idea at all how to make it.... but in a school physics lesson we had to think of a way to power a small island with renewable power.... and I thought of that.

hey... maybe some other people thought of it before that.... and i had/have no idea how to make it work.... but still.... i should have patented that sh*t !

What do they plan to do with the brackish water that the plant will produce? Not trying to pick flaws in it or anything, am guessing that something like that would have been thought through, even if they just plan on pumping it out to sea...

Where would it end up anyway? River water eventually mixes with sea water in these areas naturally.

Exactly, sweetwater poors out into the saltwater all the time.

Aye, I did think about that as I was writing the question, and pondered scrapping the post. But then I wondered WHERE they would pump out the water. Its unlikely they will pipe it to the rivers fresh/saltwater interface and release it at a rate so as to not affect the salinity at all. As a result Id imagine that there will still be local effects to the benthic fauna around the pipe outlet which would have knock-on effects to larger animals. Nothing severe but its still worth a pause for thought. It likely would be as bad as the myriad number of sewage outlets that pump out to sea. In the scheme of things its no biggy, but it all depends on placement and saturation. Mediterranean islands arent the best of places to go swimming off of the coast...
