So was it a setting on the laptop, or have you just hosted it on a diff comp?

Seems alright, not really played with it too much though. Bookmarked that link as I imagine the spawn point will want to be moved sometime. Hopefully when people are on tonight we can decide on a new spawn location or something :D

Ill be on from about 5 I guess :D

Mongoose

I just tried going in through the web client but, annoyingly but not unexpectedly, the web client wont run on my work machine.

Ok, im struggling now, im tempted to buy this and play but I still havent worked out what the point of the game its?

Is it just mine and build stuff? Once youve spent ages mining and building a structure is there any use for it? If only id got in on the free weekend!

the objective is to survive, at night zombies come and try to eat your brains (unless youve accidentally got the difficulty on "peaceful").

beyond that its basically an open ended sandbox. Now that I have a stronghold Im satisfied with (the sky fortress), Im planning to play the single player mode much more casually, just popping out at night to beat up some zombies or exploring the odd cavern. Ive recently found some green mossy cobblestone in my mine after digging towards the sound of skeletons, so Im currently plotting how best to take control of their dungeon and turn it into an arrow factory.

Best way to think of it is multiplayer lego, with zombies.

Whats the point in lego? To build whatever the hell you want.

Whats the point in zombies? To scare the crap out of you and give you something to run away from.

Whats the point in lego with zombies? To build whatever the hell you want and occasionally get a cheap scare from. And to build things to get revenge on said zombies.

I myself quite liked exploring the cave system under the uber fort. It really is rather expansive, took a week to explore. I know its nothing like caving IRL (theres no zombies) but it was fun to see where things went, knock through a wall and see what was on the other side, as well as the minor challenges of getting to resources on the other side of chasms etc.

Really its like blockland, but better. Itll be cool to see what people get up to in multiplayer, hunting parties into caves, developing a massive trap system and then luring a spider or something in, roller coasters etc. Even if its simple stupid stuff like building a tower up to the max and then jumping off and seeing if you can hit the target or something ><

(That might be fun actually...highest tower and you have to land in the 1block wide water filled tunnel (assuming that this will save you))

Bacon tried that, you can fall as far as you like as long as its into water I think.

Bacon did it into the sea...not the equivalent of a high dive into a bucket ;)

When I start playing tonight Ill do a quick Fraps video of "Day 0".

Theres a wee bit of lag and Ive noticed an interesting bug where you cant build/destroy blocks within x distance of the spawn point, so instead Ive made a small bridge to another island and Im in the process of flattening it and replacing the sand ground layer with stone. Its a MASSIVE area so lots of room to expand, add rooms, storage boxes etc.

Sadly no monsters though.

The first test i did was into a waterfall, the part i landed in was like half a block / waist deep if not less, that was from the top of a mountain.

OK my desktop has chosen this evening to refuse point blank to connect to my wireless, so Im trying from my laptop. I dont hold out much hope since the lappy doesnt like single player minecraft and wont be able to stop more than a couple of minutes anyway, but worth a try.

edit: no joy, it just sticks on "connecting to server"

Ill check my firewall settings

Knighty can you see if Im attempting to log in as far as the server is concerned? my Minecraft name is TEKmongoose (mongoose was taken and Im unimaginative!)

Ive noticed that when a tool is about to run out, put it down and pick it up again.  Voila! New tool!
Could do with a bookmark system though, so I dont need to keep coming to this thread for the IP.
