http://www.jolicloud.com/

going to give this a bash on my netbook - as it really struggles with windows.
Anyone use it?

Eggtastico

This is great. Has tons of Potential. Supported my mini 700 netbook without any trouble. Just had to pick my network to connect.
It comes with apps already installed & adding apps is as easy clicking add.
Theres apps for a torrent client, Boxee, Spotify, Skype, Gimp, VLC, plants v zombies, freeciv,  nes box, drobox, googlemaps, bbc iplayer, etc.
oh & theres WINE of course.

This along with its support for Boxee (soopha's guide http://www.tekforums.net/guides-projects/soopah%27s-alternative-htpc-guide/)
really does open up a load of possibilities for a proper HTPC that can do everything you want + more.

Im really considering putting it on a spare PC I have here & connecting it to my TV

Can see a lot of use from a business point of view as well as a basic machine for non tech users.

DEViANCE

looks smart might give this a play later.

Do you think it would be able to run a wireless PCMCIA card that I use in the older laptops?

It runs Ubuntu under the hood.. so maybe check if its supported with that first.

Is it just a bunch of shortcuts to web services ?  :dunno:

[edit]
Just spotted that it's either an OS or a kind of launcher app.

I could see it being really good if it included XBMC, or at least if you could add it as an 'App' on the OS version, obviously the web based version it would be less useful...

Just had a thought I've got one of these sitting around doing nothing, might see if I can get it running on this, it's an old school tablet (2000!)

Could be a 'good' iPad replacement :) and for free!

It can run Boxee - is there that much difference?

I expect that would do it! I'm finding it difficult to find the apps you can run?

Eggtastico

bear

I am running ubuntu on my travelmate :) works great :D

Turns out Joli is a bit too much for the Fujitsu, and the touch screen doesn't work :S

Nevermind, back to the back of the cupboard it goes then!

Had a play with it on my old laptop which I guess is still above Netbook spec, it had a XP/Ubuntu install on it which works fine, but Wifi doesn't work on Joli and was slower to boot, I was a bit surprised at the Wifi as it is Intel and was still used until 2007, I couldn't find a fix for it so give up on it pretty quickly tbh.

I currently use Mediaportal to transmit TV and media across my network ...if it was supported I would give it another look as I'm really into the concept   But currently it looks like a ginger half-brother to me :P
