Believe it was and according to Top gear, the size of the wheels did not allow you to put off-road tires on the car, and to fit a smaller size of wheel would mean that they wouldnt fit over the giant brakes it has.

Looked like it handled like an oiled fatman on a slip and slide to be honest on the footage.

And sand dunes arent exactly "off road" considering that with wide enough tyres and low pressures any car would likely handle perfectly fine on them.

It said the company couldnt supply them, other tyre manufacturers might be able to supply suitable items.

Sand does require different tyres though so everyone can be right here..

lets face it, if youre gonna get a 4x4 to go off road, you get a landy, this cayenne is just for porsche to get into the lucrative SUV market, who can blame them either

This is true, it was never really designed as a true off roader.

madmax

had to watch it streaming off the bbc site at low res but finally watched it.

the cottaged s class was hoot eh?

lol @ the bad handling remarks - the cayenne turbo famously posted laptimes getting close to a 911 around the test circuit - bear in mind though i havent watched the show yet so its prob handling on gravel knowing my luck!

Also - what use would the range rover sport be? Less ground clearance, same problem with the wheels, more weight and far, far slower!

Mark

A standard land rover to me looks like it shouldnt go offroad either - there is crap ground clearance where the diff housing is - It looks less than some small cars!

Offroad = UNIMOG :)

Quote from: NorphySo, the Cayenne Sport is officially the most pointless car in the world then? An off-road vehicle which cant go off road because the wheels are too big to get proper tyres on and you cant put smaller wheels on because they wouldnt fit over the brake disks? Nice. No use as a proper sports car as it would be too big and too heavy to handle as one.

erm actually very fast, good handling & pretty nifty in the desert

though yes pretty useless in the UK - great for arab sheiks though

tend to do better with 4wd - some places you can sink a bit - basically a powerfull engine + 4wd makes plowing through dunes easier - the porshe is actually ideal for this
