pretty much, there are more people supporting HD-DVD, which means though the costs are the same now its more likely the prices will fall faster.  

My first cdr drive was a 8 speed reader, a 2 speed writer, and cost just over Ã,£450..... blank cds were Ã,£10 each too

Can we expect to see dual format bluray and HD-DVD writers like we have dual format DVD+R and -R writers? Or is the format wat going to prevent that too.

Quite looking forward to these capacity of disks, will make backing up much more practical.

i nearly bought one then bottled it, as last time i bought a Panasonic DVDRAM drive when they first came out thinking it was the thing to have over the purchase of a Yamaha SCSI CDRW. Ã,£550 quid down the toilet!

Ive never paid > Ã,£40 for an optical drive, and I wont start by buying something like this now, especially as its a Sony thing, Blu-Ray.

(Im biased against sony due to their proprietary everything - once you get sony X, you have to buy sony Y and Z to connect it to   vendor lock-in, no thanks..)

oops I just remembered I paid Ã,£70 for my DVD RW drive as half-life 2 arrived the day it came out and I just *HAD* to get a DVD drive to install it *THAT NIGHT* from PC World, and I was robbed...
