A mate of mine came off in spring on his radian 600.

Did it at about 30mph going around a bend and already braking, ended up on tree crap and back went from underhim. Went down.. bike flipped over and he went with landing on otherside, then slid to stop after finally getting bike away from him.

Tore through his leathers, his gloves and crushed his left knee cap. Spent 5 or so weeks unable to drive, or place too much pressure on his one leg.

Sooo dangerous, but its doing my head in, I wanted to do my CBT and stuff last summer, I remember posting it on here even. Damn things... just keep putting the damn thing off.

Thats a good machine for starting off on - neat handling and not too powerful, but has enough poke to get you out of trouble.

I have a zx-10 that I still havent managed to sell (Or bring myself to) - I spend more time on the RD350s  the RG500 than anything else - you cant beat 2 stroke imo - anything more than 2 strokes is masturbation :)

I think thats the main thing about bikes..

its not an if, its a when.

with regards to crashing...

where-as some people never crash a car :) certainly doesnt seem to happen as often.

still......  ;) I really *really* really[/u] like the YZF-R6 although it is not a beginners bike.

tis just the thought of winding something up to 16000+ rpm and slamming it all the way through its gears ..... its not so far away from your own F1 engine - minus about 99% of the cost ;)  the noise is FANTASTIC.

:edit:

I bought this to hopefully defer the buying of a real one....

best not tell you its nowt like the true sensation of getting a series of corners just right on a real bike then (oops   )

some photos of me tom foolary

Before....

and much later...
bruised and battered one piece

Time for the bin  :whoops:

and the victim

no doubt in my mind that the gear saved me from serious injury

Quote from: madmaxcept they smell funny

there is *nothing* like the smell of 2 stroke. Proper 2 stroke and burning cluches - not those dreadful scooter things.

Im talking about 20 year old bikes that in standard form and with 500cc that can STILL out accelerate ANY modern litre superbike. Class !

Max, are track falls easier on your body? :)

Seems to me that sliding on grass doesnt seem as nasty as sliding down a tarmaced road :D

Spesh after seeing my mates leathers, his were torn through in sections (definately saved his skin mind!) after sliding along a country lane. Yours seem fairly intact just a little scuffed and muddied.

Ive owned a smattering of bikes over the last ten years, and have never had a single accident. Not even tipped over while parking. Its possible to stay safe if you set your mind to it.

Indeed, I bet it feels great.

its probably better on a motorbike, but on my racer I love nothing more than the sensation of the weight-transfer.

That amazing feeling you get when leaning hard round a left, and then switching real hard to the right

fantastic feeling :D

M3ta.. I imagine it depends. Max said he ended up in a gravel trap which I suppose is preferable to a ditch..  but if you end up on armco, your not going to enjoy it much.

Madmax, how does your poor bike look :(  you see so many with the sanded-down, fillered & awaiting painting look at the local bike show near the tail end, where they have had serious scratching!!

I am kinda lucky living so close to Poole Quay - every tuesday is bikers night and theres a huge gathering there, usually. some fine machinery :D

was only sliding on the track a few meters at most then it was time to sumersault (!!!) through the gravel trap.

no idea, it was a hire bike so i was grateful that it wasnt mine.
only cost Ã,£135 fortunatly for him to repair so was bareable.

i was in the back of an ambulance and didnt see what state it was in (was lying in the gravel trap when i got up)

 thats the way to do it huh, dont take your own machinery to the track !!!

Well guys, it happened sooner than later.

Today I went on a bikesafe day, was a good days riding (just me a the policeman) and he gave me lots and lots of helpful info, for Ã,£30 i would recommend it.

Anyway... to the crash. I was coming down the road and there was a nice left hand bend which i went round at about 20mph, it suddenly tightened which normally would be fine but there was lots of spilt grain on the other side of the road. Becuase i was spending too much time thing "oh crap, look at that" I went wide, hit the grain and bam, bike went from under me.

Slid across the road and into the grass verge and then the policeman came round the corner, stopped in the road ahead of me with his lights going and came to see if i was alright by which point I was already on my feet looking around.

Im fine, jacket did its job, couple small holes through the textile on the shoulders and scuffs down the left arm. Gloves have some scuffs.

The bike... Well the R&G crash bung (the new type) just snapped off soon as i hit the ground (which im pretty sure they arnt ment to do... esp at 15mph) I have some small scuffs on the front fender and side of the radiator, tank has small dent in it ( and the gear selector snapped off :(

Police got me to call my breakdown service and got the bike picked up and just now dropped off at home. Apart from the cosmetic dmg (no paint has been taken off) and the gear selector it all seems fine. May use it to go get a new one tomorrow after work by sticking it in 2nd and staying in it.

Did find it amusing that my first off happened on a police bikesafe day :)

I will post some of the bike and my kit tomorrow once i get my camera back.

Sorry about the quality, my camera is in my tank bag which is still with the police, I had to use a mates crap camera but you get the idea.

Did your helmet touch the ground at ALL ?

If so, replace it asap. You should NEVER re-use a helmet thats hit the floor - even if you drop it - I know that sounds stupid, but its safe.
