The Apollo inquestion is some ghetto looking Full Doinger - its appauling to be honest, how they can sell such sh*t is beyond me...

A fully rigid, steel bike with half decent tektro brakes and maybe even a single speed setup would be good - its just for cruising around on and the gears will never be serviced or looked after.

Thats what I was going for with mine, but I fear Ive put too much effort in to it and now Ill be too scared to chain it to lamposts and leave it outside college overnight like I used to.  Its gonna be a bit more of a theft magnet compared to how it used to be, but I reckon people would struggle to make a yellow SS with sawn off mech hangers look inconspicuous.  Id probably be able to hunt it down again without too much trouble :D

Kinda wanted to make it a fixie to thwart thieves after I read this :D

QuoteRumor from the South Side is that the guy broke an arm and a leg and had some lacerations. He crashed going into a graveyard that is a local cut through after about 2 blocks of searching for the brakes...

gears are pretty much pointless on street hacks like the bikes kids and people who commute to work use. Very few actually use their gears - they sit in one speed the whole time and after 3 or 4 months the mech is rusted and beaten to a pulp anyway. SS is perfect for most things - except racing (unless your me! :)).

Thats partly why I have a cheapo bike with a thick metal rope to chain it to lamposts for, make them use as much effort as possible to remove it and so also make it not worth bothering to do.

If you have arthritis or other joint problems then the gears are used pretty often so for some a single speed isnt the best option. There are also loads of banks locally to add to the problems too.

The Santa Cruz now has the ergonomics of a Sting-ray. :w00t:

Quality.

Sorted out a couple of niggles on mine, bars straightened and seat leveled.
Did 15miles on saturday, and now my shoulders ache across the tops.

Need to replace front mech at some point, the shiftings sloppy.

/me prices up XTR and X0 mechs.

Quote from: soopahflyWhats the best way of weighing it?

Weigh yourself on a reasonably accurate digital scale, then weigh yourself with the bike on your shoulder. ;)

When Im in the mood for pointless weighing, I balance mine vertically with the rear brake locked, on a vintage delicatessen scale.

I havent changed much since I bought it in 2000. New forks and replaced the chain and cassette once.
