I aint a fanboy of the mac or the ps2. Just into the PS2 but not a fanboy of it. Im considering getting a 360 soon along with the PS3. I got a laptop with windows and am getting a Mac computer too. I aint no fanboy at all.

As for what Id be using it for....well, have better net access than the PC (IE and other browsers apart from Firefox are slow!), use it to play music on, chat to friends via iChat or the Mac version of MSN Messenger and also store my photos on.

I think compared to Windows, the environment or UI of Macs shown in both OS X Tiger and the upcoming OS X Leopard, are much more user friendlier than Windows.

Except the use of the apple key for functions normally attributed to the ctrl key in windows, the use of non-standard keyboard layouts on the apple keyboards, the use of confusing menu bar and task bar systems leaving first time users wondering where options are.

The hiding of vital program menu items under the little "apple" sign.

No easy direct way of opening applications except from shortcuts on the desktop, or navigating through a finder window (akin to having to open all of ones programs using only windows file explorer).

Its a shoddily laid out and thought out operating system. Ive used it for basic surfing of the net, (safari is sh*tE!) and Ive used it for programming, and Ive used it for graphics and image editing, and web publishing.

All tasks I can achieve in a seemingly less convoluted way using a PC.

PC, I dont care how good Apple are their marketing really gets on my tits and the whole iThing winds me up.

edit: Podcast too, I hate that word.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Whats wrong with "podcast"?
"Within your 'purview'? Where do you think you are, some f**king regency costume drama? This is a government department, not some f**king Jane f**king Austen novel!"

Id go for Mac...

purely because their OS is absolutely superb, not that XP is bad, just that OS X is light years ahead in every way.

And i adore my Mac Mini (G4) - tiny, quiet, no heat and stable as a rock.

anyone commenting on this argument, who hasnt used both a mac and a windows PC for a decent length of time should do before commenting.

I be waiting for Leopard. Reason is that more new features and dont wanna have to upgrade a month or so after getting the Mac with OS X Tiger on.

On the subject of stability, not necessarily the operating system, but I find that applications running upon it (G4 Tower thing) were flaky as hell, saving in photoshop caused a crash for example. That said it never randomly rebooted, well XP hasnt either except when theres something wrong with the hardware in the PC.

They are quiet though :)

Batch

I love the sound of quietness. I hate PCs making a big fan noise when you try do something on it.

lol yeah, I want a mac mainly for the smallness of it. Nice 12inch ibook, and a macmini (Yomp!) and the fact they are silent.

Dont want one cause they are better than a PC, cause in my experience and opinion they arent :) lol, but they look pretty.

thats horsesh*t, mac osx is the only real operating system to use natural layout ergonomics in their design, so its just your damn silly way of thinking where options should be had. dont think where it is, just go with your gut instinct, and PRESTO!!! its there.

thats why its good for creatives, they have little or no computer experience nad they can work it fine, AND churn out fantastic pieces of work.

every single piece of graphics, photography, media you see is generated on, wait for it....

MAC!!!! (sweeping gesture, there are exceptions)

soopahfly

Hi Im a mac and Im for fun.  But you cant play any games really.  So Not much fun.

Hi Im a PC, and get stereotyped as a boring git.  But look.  I can run a million times more cool stuff than the mac!  Whos for fun now?

Batch

Macs never have to restart or freeze up compared to Macs :D. Also, I want the mac to not have a slow computer.

soopahfly

PCs dont freeze up unless your a n00b and click everything on the net that pops up and says "Click me"

And it seems you bought into the nonsense that Macs were quicker despite being proved otherwise time and time again.

My PC doesnt.....  Besides, Macs are just the same hardware now anyway, so this ia a mute point.

Batch

Depends on what PC it is walrusbonzo. I used to have an eMachines 420 before it got burnt out and unrepairable! So now I have a spare monitor (CRT 17") and accessories.

I will be posting a FS thread for the monitor and the accessories now.
