could be worth a shot. Construct 3 mirrors and combine with walking over a ladder (as Im not sure how to make a ladder walk over you) and I reckon you could be home free....
Career, Wife, Mortgage... my sig was better when it listed guitars and PC's and stuff!

I dont understand why you should get special treatment.
You wont get special treatment out in the real world.

They wont go "ooh, hes dyslexic, lets give him a longer deadline"

Reading and answering the ACTUAL question, rather than what you think read is a key exam success key.

You can know loads of stuff, but if you dont put the appropriate relevant bits in there for the examiner to give you the necessary ticks, youll never do that great.

Im relatively convinced that if people were taught this a bit more, much of this "extra-time" phenomenon could be done away with.
"Within your 'purview'? Where do you think you are, some f**king regency costume drama? This is a government department, not some f**king Jane f**king Austen novel!"

you are right, if they could show me a workaround i wouldnt need an extra 25% time :/

Me four.

Supposedly, you get a percentage added for your exam if certain things have happened. Like 2% for a family pet dying, 10% for a close relative dying..

Its a bit strange. How do you put a mark on something so big? A dog dying may devastate someone and wreck their lives.. It may be their best friend. Whereas people may try to claim on their goldfish dying.

Correct me if Im wrong about that being true or not, but thats what was being talked about back when I did GCSEs a few years ago.

Just to clarify, Im not trying to be nasty about it.  But it should be realistic.  No special treatment when it comes to the exams/coursework.

Silly comment tbh, I cant even use a pen so becuase I cant sit the exams in a normal way they should have not helped me out but failed me just becuase I have a disability?

Stupid to say that

Mardoni

no its not.

Ive got no problem with people doing exams orally, nor with them using a computer if they cannot write. But to give someone extra time is to give them an advantage over someone who is not *disabled*.

Dyslexia = Learning Disability
Loss of use of thumb and hand motion as in not normal = Disability

Meaning not able to do things normal, do a test that you need to put on paper on a computer = not very easy, a lot harder, takes more time

Having to go over things more then a "normal" person would to make sure you understood it being Dyslexia = more time needed

Mardoni

I dont understand what youre trying to say.

It may take more time to write/type/dictate an answer but in being given more time, that person is gaining an edge over other students.

Just out of interest, do they just give Blind students extra time in exams to compensate for them not being able to read the questions ?

jamieL

Im on Nimrods side for this one..

I think a mental disability and physical disability are different.

Im sure if youre clever enough with computers and fast enough at typing youll only need the same amount of time. Your thoughts arent coming out any slower.

I mean, with disabilities like Dyslexia, I think if they give them extra time and they come out with all As for example, then these As get them a good job they could be giving a false impression to the employer of how good this worker is and whether theyll be able to meet the deadlines in time, etc. Because they arent going to get 25% extra time for everything in life.

I do understand and value both sides of the argument, I just feel stronger with the side Ive pointed out.
