Just out of interest, do they just give Blind students extra time in exams to compensate for them not being able to read the questions ?

simple put, hate using the term normal but works for the example

normal = 100
disabled person = 70
extra time = 25
disabled person = 95

That is what it does, gives it a fair opportunity, it is not an advantage it is an assessed time as a result of the disability.

Going on your logic that the extra time gives an advantage means that a disabled person is equally capable as someone who is not, which is simply not true.

Well known and documented about capacity to stair at a screen and concentration levels and thoughts.
Saying your thoughts coming out no slower is silly, so you have never made notes during your exam or done bullet points to come back to it or done a sketch of something to remember what to write about it?

It does not give an employer a false impression at all you will be going into the job and telling them you have Dyslexia and they can not treat your application any different from anyone else if you show you capable of the actual job, to do so would get the company into company and sued etc.

Each person goes to their course people tells them and they are assed with regard to their disability for the exam extras they need depending on them and these come from national information and standards for what disadvantages each condition has to what it means for the exam.

It is something called equal rights
Sorry but some here are not thinking about how bad things are for some, and how much different it is for them
Everyone is entitled to an opinion but some here are being a bit negative to people with disabilities here.

Lets not have lifts or ramps for people in wheel chairs, not fair to have them have an advantage like that, should not get support and help in the real world.
They should not be treated equally at work and work places should not have disabled facilities either.

if someone passes an exam/course while being allowed 25% extra time then it should say so on the certificate

everyone is different tbh.. - classifying certain people on the bases of selected differences and then assigning some form of bias to a test as a result just creates an unfair test IMO

you cant turn round to a client and say sorry Im a bit slow so youll need to give me 25% extra time on this project

I fully sympathise with Red and his condition, as I know others in his exact same position, but I dont agree with the university policies of doling out extra time to people.

well untill they know a workaround its ample.

i didnt use my extra time btw, and it isnt something i have picked up off a toilet seat. it seems ive had it all my life and the only way to get around it is to work 25% harder.

i didnt ask for the extra time, however it is a mitigating circumstance which tbh only makes things fairer as it does take some time to compute.

i did have my first exam yesturday and as i have been pretty much eating sleeping and drinking my uni work, means the exams should go alright, as long as i keep my head and highlight the stuff they want me to answer.

The important bit being justifying your decision, giving good reasons explains that you understand how the market works and that you have dne your work properly.

i had extra time during my AS levels, i didnt use it tho cause as I said i didnt pay attention in class at all :)

but i found that it wasnt answering the questions, it was understanding the stuff i was taught
i took physics, science and computing at AS level and i had real difficulty understanding some concepts, Ill give an example, I couldnt for the life of me work out how to rearrange equations, it completely stumped me, i know some people can just see it and dont need to work it out, but I couldnt work it out, and it was pretty important in those 2 subjects

i found that approaching it at unconventional ways achieved best results, but it pissed me off so I just gave up with it

the funny thing was I could do GCSE maths easily, i know its pretty rudimentary but the jump to the advanced maths purplexed me

The jump from AS to A2 is much much much more difficult than anything ive encountered in Uni.

Not saying that its easier content in uni, im saying its more gradual. AS to A2... huge jump in technical knowledge.
