Admittedly Im completely biased due to a childhood love of the subject matter, and Im and almost certain that it wont appeal to many on here, but did anyone catch the advanced screenings of Transformers?

I went in expecting to be disappointed, after all Michael Bay hasnt exactly brought us masterpieces in the past, but I was pleasantly surprised and soon ended up sucked in by the film.

I dont want to say too much in case I spoil it for those who are interested but if you approach it with an open mind Im sure youll find quite a bit worthy of merit. In many ways it was very much in the spirit of the original cartoon but adapted quite well for the big screen. Itll never be cinematic genius given both the source material and the director but if nothing else its by far the best popcorn flick of the summer. Ive certainly never seen such a large audience leave a cinema with such big grins on their faces.

SteveF

roll on wednesday is all I can say.

Die Hard 4.0 last week rocked my world and Im hoping for the same from Transformers this week :)

Madrocker

transformers was awsome!!!!

But I too am biased.

White Giant

I thought it was ace.

Too much of the kid, not enough of the Transformers, but with the cost of the CGI Im not suprised.

One little thing, at times it was difficult to tell which was which.

Has anyone read the prequel book? I saw it in a shop a few weeks ago but couldnt afford it.

AND WHERE WAS SOUNDWAVE?"?"?"?oneoneeleven. He was my favourite from when I was a kid.

I agree with your points, although I imagine the kid was there for the whole human interest angle. I mean, starting off straight from the Transformers view would have been great for anyone who knows about them and grew up with them but it would have alienated joe public who werent children of the 80s. I imagine the next movie will be more Transformer centric now the scene has been set.

I agree with the difficulty telling which is which, moreso with the decepticons than the autobots. The latter were colourful as is the norm so it wasnt too bad, but the bad guys suffered a bit from stormtrooper syndrome at times.

I ordered the prequel comic today, Ill let you know what its like when it arrives.

With regards to Soundwave he was originally planned to be in but transforming into something different (they didnt want mass shifting on the transformers so him turning into a cassette deck would be a bit daft). Eventually they just cut him completely, rumour has it hes in the second one though. There were quite a few cut characters, apparently Arcee was modelled and rendered and everything as a nifty pink sports bike but due to a combination of fan requests and not wanting more rivet counter type questions about why there is a transformer woman when they dont appear to reproduce sexually (believe it or not) they cut her and replaced her with Ironhide. Good trade off if you ask me although like Soudnwave it would be good to see her in the second one.

We can only hope that Hot Rod isnt in the second one. Whiny piece of crap that he is.  8)

twist

Oh man it was amazing...

Could have been a lot better... but i loved every minute of it none the less

and as a side note - JESUS the CGI was absolutely stunning!

M3ta7h3ad

It was alright, but found it far too childish in my view.

I dont know maybe ive just grown up since I last watched this stuff, but the agent trying to be funny just came across as annoying.

The fight scenes, and everything else... AWESOME.. but the annoying "S7" bollocks just took the edge off.

The idea certainly appealed, large robots doing massive damage draws in a lot of us. /remembers someone burning teddies...

Scripts though were a tad weak.

I saw one bit where Optimus tears off the roof of a car. If the cgi is up to that standard then its got a lot going for it. All depends on the script though.

Doubt if it will outdo the latest Harry Potter movie.

White Giant

Ofc it wont touch the new Harry Pooper, but still its a cracking film.

Clock'd 0Ne

Pretty damn good IMO! Im no fanboy but I still enjoyed it immensely, the CGI was spectacular, the script was good enough to keep the story moving and even the kid wasnt so annoying. Bay has come up with something pretty special.

What a wasted opportunity for an immense battle at the Hoover dam though...

IMDB answers all:

QuoteWhy is Bumblebee not a VW Beetle?
EditHistoryDelete

Several reasons have been given for the change.

One of the reasons is because producers couldnt get rights from VW to use a Beetle. VW didnt want their product being associated with a violent film.

In an interview with Wired Magazine, Michael Bay also stated that he made the change because he wanted the mass of the Transformers in robot form to be believable compared to their vehicle form, and thus a VW would have resulted in Bumblebee being much smaller in robot form.

Another reason is that Bay wanted to avoid comparisons to Herbie the Love Bug, and that he felt that Bumblebee needed an updated look. Thus, Bumblebee was changed from a VW Beetle to a Camaro.

We do briefly see Bumblebee next to an old (1971) VW Beetle early on in the film, however, in a nod to his past.

soopahfly

So he was changed to a Gay Ass american tank.
What was with the one that was a pontiac solstice?  Thats a small-ish car.
