^^ i want one, but now im guna get an EEE when they arrive

its annoying, because i try to sell laptops and desktop PCs all day in work and I have to flog vista as a selling point...

so many people dont like it and go for a clearance laptop with XP still installed on it

Kunal

Acers comments are nothing more than headline grabbers, I cant remember the last time I read an article on Acer.  Perhaps if they sold machines that met the minimum spec...

Nexus I becoming increasingly confused and less convinced with your critiicsm of Vista.  All I see is unjust criticism and no actual problems.

The high end Dell workstations and laptops are very good these days - using one right now :)

After aquiring alienware and a couple of others theyre pretty much up there in terms of the best home built systems.  Their laptops are pretty much untouchable.

Off topic I know but thought Id just mention it.

Agreed, I have recently been impressed with dell equipment, servers & laptops especially.  The desktops are not bad.

Came across a Dell Lattitude D420, iirc, 1GHZ, 1GB, 11" Widescreen, blueetooth, wifi, 60GB hard disk.  Fantastic bit of kit, Ive picked up paperbacks heavier than this thing and it is rock solid.

Quote from: NeXuSME was the test base for many of the features of xp in terms of the home user and of which many were canned or vastly re-worked, a lot of people in the industry call vista me 2

No it wasnt.  They are not even related.  ME was the last in the line of MS-DOS/9x series OS.  XP is based on the NT familly.  The main difference being ME cant join a domain.  The only thing I would agree with their are features/functionality that may have been used in Home.  There is no connection with the kernel of the OS.

Who is the industry?

redneck

the gay porn industry he is talking about.

ME just had dos locked down & system restrore points ;-D - thats how most people kill machines.
Any 1/2 decent store wouldnt put ME on as they could lose out on the easy money rebuilds

Well company after company echo similar comments and the fact that game developers moaning about it a lot, people have even bothered to make and crack dx10 games to work on xp and the actual fact elements in terms of compatibility, sli and crossfire, the average 20-30 fps drop on many games and the struggle of ms to sell vista
When this other version of the OS is announced in November I will feel justified then

This is what i mean by just criticsm. For each problem you may well bring up, ask your self Is it really microsofts fault or the industry not pulling its finger out.

This was one of the longest tested OSs ever iirc.  You cant tell me that in the time it was out as Beta no one at Nvidia asked the question, what happens when I plug 2 cards in SLI in.  Microsoft does not deserve criticism for that.  I expect performance to increase with each patch/service pack myself.

As far it goes, Vista has done nothing but get thumbs up from me so far.  The only reason I have an XP desktop at work undermy desk is something to fall back onto if I need to.  That and there is not a Vista version of PC Anywhere yet.

Acer UK are a bunch of know nothing muppets TBH.
They took 4 months to repair a friends machine under warranty. All it was a forked HDD.

Maybe you should get a job with them, think youd fit right in there.

Everyone accused ATI and Nvidia of not sorting their sli drivers and last week everyone had to basically apologise becuase it was a flaw in vista.

All the dx10 issues and perfomance has actually been put down to vista now and some of the flaws and features it has on/off or missing from earlier versions which ms are fixing now and in a patch at some point...

So yes while there are quite a few questions you got to ask hardware and software people about what they been doing in regard to vista or lack of, they are not entirely to blame since a lot of things from when it was longhorn to live have been changed, adjusted, broke, removed or missing that have caused drivers etc all to stop working when they worked in beta as well as other core aspects of the OS that really they pulled before it is finished.
It has been proven by the leading virus software folk etc to actually be less secure then xp, and even when I tested it wasting to many resources on to many naff features some of which you cant even turn off yet, ALL of which are in the SP1 in terms of changes making some off by default and others actually able to be turned off.

Dead lcd - IN 4 days it was back all fine, and their lcds are really top quality stuff, hence why we got a lcd tv for the back room from them, very nice quality, hd to boot for under £300.

I just want to make sure I understand what youre getting at Nexus...

Vista is bad/crap/rubbish because straight out of the box it didnt/doesnt support all of the hardware/software combinations that XP supports ?

Is that about what youre trying to say ?
