Ok well came to turn my pc on today and nothing, just wouldn't turn on (it's been fine running for nearly 2 years)

so opened it up gave it a clan made sure everything was in the right place
Plugged it back in, and all the fans spun like once and stopped then tried to spin again and stopped.

So I think the power supply is on its way out or rather just gone out.

Any one agree with this or have any ideas?

sounds like the PSU has overloaded unplug everything from the PSU for 5mins & then try with just the mobo connected.

If you have a spare PSU then plug that one in & then try the other one again.

Certainly sounds like the PSU. Does the fan on the PSU spin?

yea the fan on the psu spins, but ive noticed the psu also makes a sound,  hard to describe its high pitched,  

gona try eun pluggign everything now

edit ok eveything apart from the 2 mainboard power supplys un plugged,  still the same,  the mainboard LED flashses very fast aslo.

If you have a spare psu anywhere or can borrow one to test it I think that would be my next move. Basically its process of elimination and thats got to be the place to start.

What spec is your PSU and how much stuff do you have in your machine?

I said everything.. including motherboard. Ive seen it a hundred times. The PSU needs to discharge. Quickest fix it to use another PSU & then swap straight back to the old.

ahh sorry, trying now with everything diconnected,

but i dont have a spare psu to try.

its not had a problem untill today, but the pc is

asus premium main board (  can get more info if really needed)
amd 64bit 4000+
2gig ram
nvidia 7800GTX
2 hard drives
1 dvd rom and 1 dvd-rw

edit: tryed again and still the same the led flashes etc

also could any one recommend a new PSU for me, ive been out of the loop on hardware for some time now.

around £50 is fine, dont really wana spend to much more,

aslo pc case is antec p180 so cables need to be a good length

damn.... i can never remember the company that gives them lifetime garantees !..... someone else should be able to tell you.... get one of those

also boost your budget up to £75 or so... so that you get a better / more future proof one (if its garanteed for life then why not !

Id point you in the direction of Hiper Type R Psu but I think they are just over £50 and Im not sure they fit that case.

Chuck Norris has one of those cases and that PSu in another case, he thinks it would fit, would need to ask him again though.

all fixed now. was the PSU.

and it was a type R that i had  which still has a 1 year warrenty left.

and ive replaced it with the type R mark2.

pitty its not modular, but its in and working now.
