Dear Tekforums,

Supposing I want to be insured on a friends car for just one day, do we phone the car owners insurance company and request an additional driver for one day, or can we phone any insurer and ask for one day insurance. Whats the damage likely to be?

Yours faithfully,

Daddy C.

£12.60 with Norwich Union. Cheaper than dayinsure by £2. Bob on :D

Cheers Edd.

You ACTUALLY mean someone is willing to let you drive THEIR car?

*cough* mad *cough*

I looked into this a while ago. Turned out Norwich Union underwrite almost all the short term insurers anyway so you might as well go to them direct.

Tis occasionally worth asking your mates insurance company though, a couple of years ago I had my then GF put on my insurance for a full month for nothing.

To Coventry, Warwick and back :P

Nasty, girly pedal placement on the Pug 106, and no clutch foot rest :disappointed:

The problem with mine is that I can barely fit shopping in the boot and I was picking up some hifi kit.

Free 7 day car insurance from RAC here

when we all did that car rally across europe Sara and I were just added to Mr_rolls insurance.  We got a week of cross europe cover with roadside recovery for like £30 each.

If he/she rings her insurance company for an additional driver for one day in the UK itll be near enough nothing if not free.

That depends how old the registered keeper/driver is doesnt it?

Good advice anyway, for the £12 I paid though Im not bothered, it was cheaper than the £50 carriage costs.

I know with my insurer its almost entirely based on the youngest/highest risk driver. To have my little sister on my insurance would put it through the roof, but I add almost nothing to her premium. Similarly it would cost a bomb to put me on my Dads car but having him on mine actually saves me money.
