Chrome 3 beta is awesome. It has this great new feature where you type in the address bar the name of a site, press tab, and then type in the search for that site.

Eg, in the URL bar you type in: youtube [tab] david bowie

And that is just like browsing to youtube.com and then typing in david bowie in the search box.

so I installed firefox 3.5 and typed in

youtube.com [tab]

and it moved to a favourite

so I tried

youtube.com [space] postman

and instead of searching you tube it just brought up the first result.

Doesnt seem quite that good really but Im sure theyll copy it for firefox 5 :p

Google is very good, not said anything like it being backward etc, do not be silly sam.
- Genius first searches history, then bookmarks so that is your tabbing, then will do the search.
- You also have the -g etc commands and you can also create your own.
- future updates 3.6 and onward will have google map and google results etc pop up in that drop down and more. (can not wait for that)
- And of course you got all the addons available.

Addons have been annoying me though of late, some with memory leaks etc, Looking forward to the app style approval system on the way to conform to some standards etc. Should be good.

Googles addon works are coming along well as well, based around Jet/Google Gears so there should be a good stream of addons for chrome in the near future.

Browsers are just getting better and better, Bar IE.

Firebug is available for chrome so you know sam.

Side Note: Anyone seen the code inspector for Safari 4.0? It is better then firebug in a lot of areas. Firebug just needs a good interface update really.

Another Side note:

But you said firefox 3.5 does it.
I tried it - it doesnt.

Now youre telling me I need 200 addons and it might do it in 3.6 ?

So what youre saying is, when you said "firefox 3.5 does it", you actually meant it doesnt.

Nothing on postbox, all google stuff integrated including calendar with the addon.
Postbox is not a hosting it is a client app for your email.
Gmail does nothing what this does and this can integrate with it all.
The indexing, searching, contacts, to dos.... WAY better then trying to use the google web interface.

Gmail has great functionality, use that but never touch the interface, hard to navigate, poor design, same with most of the google stuff online. The web stuff use for when launching sites etc is a right pain in the ass to use. Never would use the calendar directly either, Ical or other apps.

Nothing wrong with how gmail and like work but it is the same as twitter. If your trying to use twitter through the website - CRAP. Get an app using all the API ETC that has been well made and its 10 times better.
All down to preference of course, you like what you like to use but postbox has done nothing short of impressed me. Compared to other email clients I have used it is great.

Being on your phone and syncing again is not to do with the interface but the API and data access - which is great but nothing special Sam.  Do things properly and most thngs 100% sync. Folk with blackberrys been doing it well for ages before others got their act together.

As I said it does not just directly do what chrome 3.0 has. It will go to bookmarks then history but if you tab again it will say youtube in the url only and then you can type your search an it will search. It will then try and use the search on the site and if there is not one it will fall back with its interpretation.
future Updates will direct to google and have direct google search in the address bar when they losse the search field. They can do that when it becomes smarter in 3.6 and above. you will be able to type wiki something and will search wikipedia for that. location 23 george street will get an in page drop down with map that can move around etc.

Some cool stuff. They like everyone else now are looking at multiple processes for their browser. Unlike chrome which has a process for each tab which handles the rendering, the web, and the back end for each Mozilla are looking to run each of these elements as processes and be smart in regard to tabs. If Firefox has a rendering crash it will just auto refresh and not even show you an error and still look to be running. Mozilla are aiming for a lot more self recovery with less pop ups and less user input to sort the issues out.
Safari is also working on similar, Opera 10 has some of this already....

They are also working on a smart launch page taking what chrome and safari has further with customisation options to hold twitter feed, facebook feed, search... etc. Bit like a google apps landing page..

Really is some good working being done on browsers with everyone taking leafs out of everyone else but Firefox for me has the most going for it now and in the future. By 4 it is going to me stacks ahead of the others in my opinion followed by safari in terms of the cool features but safari still has the odd font rendering and other issues that are apple based and will always be there so still wont be adopted much. I can see chrome being number 3 after firefox and IE and in terms of web geeks and like number 2 after firefox.

I really feel there wont be an opera 11 as well tbh or 12.

chrome 3 = win.

auto complete of URLs is enough for me. So I can just type in a few letters then press enter, and NOT have to press the down arrow.
