This has made my year.

Please oh please let it be a return to the old days, and not another MechAssault...

Question is, if it is any good, what about getting some form of clan together? I was good at the old MW2/3 single player, and MW4 was my first real online experience, but I did several times go 1v1 with clan leaders who were recruiting, kick their ass, and then move on, so I wasnt too bad either :D

*happy sigh*

By far the greatest BattleTech game for me was the EGA and then VGA Multiplayer BattleTech : Solaris on the old Kesmai gaming service. BattleTech : 3025 looked fantastic until EA canned it, the swines.

I used to run a clan myself and then we joined the Draconis Combine and were rebadged as the 2nd Nightstalkers.

Edit : Brings back some memories:

3025 was years ahead of its time and Ive still never really forgiven EA for cancelling it after they bought up Kesmai.

I was involved in testing for the Mechstorm/mercstorm mods (I even have an "office" on some of the Mechstorm Maps.  I loved MW4 and MW4 : Mercs.  Im really looking forward to this if it kicks off.  I would love them to include the Uller and the Wolfhound as I was always a light mech junkiw anyway.

I preferred the mediums and heavies. Mobile, but with enough weapons to lurk on the fringe of the battle and basically chip away at the enemy whilst they faffed around with the lights or assaults that were up-close :D

I will own up to laser boating in MW4 though, but hey, if it works!

Due to the fact that they didnt model any decent ECM or ECCM in Mech 4 it was easy to win in multiplayer, you just loaded up with Arrow IVs and faded everyone to death.

I think for "feel" Mechwarrior 3 wins hands down. The Mech 2 games come second, and the Mech 4 games I always placed last for how they played with regards to reload times and how the weapons and systems worked.

Nah, the Arrow4 was a line-of-sight weapon really.  While LRMs would go just over the top of a jill the Arrow4 would try and get through the middle of it.

I used to spend most of my time hunting down jump snipers and poptarts, because you know, it was funny listening to them whine.  Even more amusing when I was doing it in a Raven with a Clan Flamer and 2 Arty Beacons.  Jump snipers hated that config with passion, because it usually blew all their guns off.  They also couldnt ignore you because if they did they would be dead, but if they concentrated on you they would be swarmed under by the other members of your team.  For Brawling a Thor with 1 CLBX10 and 2xCLBX20 was killer config in a brawl.  If you wanted to just be really annoying then filling a Masakari full of CLRM10s and chain firing caused ANGER, it was even more fun if you got a spotter up with some NARC Beacons, you used to stay passive, wait for the NARC and then fire off everything in one go, I used to spend a lot of my time NARCing people in a Raven for my Gaming Team to then wipe them out.

Fave mechs anyone?

MW2 - Atlas I think

MW3 - Supernova I think it was. It was cheating I guess as its config meant you could put 6 heavy pulse lasers or ERL on, and 2 shot kill pretty much anything. The Final single player mission was ridiculous doing it that way!

MW4 - Difficult one as I played it so much. I did like my Sunder, I think I did use a raven a fair bit too, and I remember being accused of cheating when using an Uziel and hitting someones cockpit at maximum range with the PPCs.

Though admittedly the Madcat/Timberwolf is so Iconic its always got a place in my heart. Ive got a JoyRide Studios diecast Timberwolf on my shelf behind my computer :D

Fave mechs in general from the entire universe are as follows:

Assault: Akuma
Heavy: No-Dachi
Medium: Gladiator
Light: Wight

From the games its a tough one. In Mechwarrior 2 I always liked the Warhammer IIC. In the Merceneries version of Mech 2 it was probably the Flashman. For Mech 3 I always enjoyed the Avatar. For the Mechwarrior 4 series probably the Black Knight.

Mech Commander - Thor
MW2 - Hmmm not sure naymore, its been too long.
MW3 - Prob the vulture
MW4 - Hellfire (mini thor! mainly due to online play)

Out of all the mech games over the years its been MechCommander thats held the greatest love for me. It was the first game I ever played online (back in the day of mpiggy and DONT RIGHT CLICK!) and man I played it to death :D

edit: just reminded me about http://www.nebulastation.net/timby.php?PHPSESSID=4c23c76a3e45ccc54880a2151ab580a4 - tempted to try and make one :P

I played them all, but to be fair I dont have any favourite configs until MW4 made online play decent.

MW4 :: Vengeance
Light : Raven with CLRM10 and ERLL. (Yes Im a mixtech whore).
Medium : Shadow Cat, How to REALLY annoy someone at max range with a Light Gauss and ERLL.
Medium : Bushwhacker loaded out with CLBX and CSSRM.
Heavy : Loki loaded out with LRMs
Heavy : Thor with 1xCLBX10 and 2xCLBX20 (This was a monster on a city map).
Assault : None, didnt like any of them at this point.

Black Knight
Light : Wolfhound "Angry Pencil" loaded out with ERSL or ISSL (Ran a bit hot sometimes, so you swaped out the extra range for better heat scales).
Light : Uller "Irritant" Version with 2xERLL or 2xISLL for hotter maps

Mech packs ::
Assault : Masakari "Pin Cusion" Loaded out with LRM10 in every slot.
Assault : Highlander "Hailstone" Loaded out with Clan UAC2.  Stripped armour straight off.
Heavy : Dragon 1 Clan Gauss and 2xERLL.

Mercenaries ::
Some configs got dropped like the Uller 2xERLL and carrying any heavy gun because they nerfed the config so badly.  Caused all sorts of arguments in some quarters.  I just perfected my Wolfhound and Raven tactics at the time instead.
However I did add
Medium : Hellhound, and just loaded it out for close-range combat.  It was a little more flexible than the SCat, but didnt have the same survivability. The cockpit was a fairly easy hit.

Pretty much my "best" tactic was to take the arms off a NovaCat, core out its left torso, then leg it and leave it.  next best was to  shoot the legs off flying Black Knights because people used to strip armour to fit in that last little ERLL.  Used to amuse me with screams about legging, and Dishonourable.  Its basically people whining that a little 35tonne thing had just torn them a new arsehole.

Im really hoping they take it back to prior the clan invasion. Some of the best novels were written then and it was a really exciting time, the clans and lostech have been done to death.

That said it could be the horrible new BattleTech rather than Classic stuff. That would be an abomination.
