It's to stop flies and clean the neck.

they do it everywhere in America.... bits of orange on the edge of your glass.... with a pint of larger ?


but... tbh... I love a bit of lime with corona or desperadoes.... I push it down just a little bit so it's jammed in the neck so you can really taste it :-)

Bad image really.
You push it in your drink, get one of those at the bar - they will put it in the glass (can not say pint as you do not get pints here in most bars etc) and if you have the bottle it will be in.
By  Case of that it will often come with lemons (most common to put in) or lime (most prefer lemons though)
Part and parcel of that beer, it is not for decoration

Not for flavour.  To disguise the fact that it's skunked due to the clear bottle.

AFAIK it is not for flies the reason the lime is/was stuck in the beer in mexico is to mask the aroma of the beer spoiling.

Brown bottles help protect beer from sunlight, Mexicans are poor and clear glass is cheaper.

Incidentally we have a lot of beers sold in green bottles as brown glass was in shorter supply post WW2 lots of premium European beers were then sold in green glass (offers some protection but not as much as brown), green glass then got associated with being a premium brand and so presumably some brands just carried on with green.
